About the audiobook

What happens in the story

Welcome to Discworld, a magical, hilarious, and often unpredictable place where even the most basic rules of reality are turned upside down. In Equal Rites, the third book in Terry Pratchett’s beloved Discworld series, tradition is about to be challenged in the most unusual way — with magic, mayhem, and a very determined young girl.

When a wizard on his deathbed attempts to pass his magical staff to the eighth son of an eighth son — a fateful event in Discworld — something unexpected happens. The newborn child is actually a girl, Eskarina Smith. In a world where only men can become wizards, Esk’s birth presents a conundrum that no one, especially the stuffy old wizards at the Unseen University, knows how to handle.

But Esk isn’t about to let a little thing like tradition stand in her way. With the help of Granny Weatherwax, a no-nonsense witch who knows a thing or two about magic, Esk embarks on a journey to claim her rightful place at the University. Along the way, she’ll need all her wits, courage, and a bit of Granny’s tough love to prove that girls can be wizards too.

In this hilarious and thought-provoking audiobook, Terry Pratchett delivers his trademark wit and satire, bringing to life a world full of colorful characters, absurd situations, and sly commentary on gender roles and equality. The stellar performances of Indira Varma, Peter Serafinowicz, and Bill Nighy breathe even more life into this enchanting tale, making it a must-listen for Discworld fans and newcomers alike.

Equal Rites is a magical adventure that will leave you laughing, thinking, and rooting for the underdog — or in this case, the under-witch!
