Johanna Spyri

Born near Zurich in 1827, Johanna Spyri was a Swiss author of novels and children’s stories. She is best known for her children’s novel Heidi, inspired by her holidays in the Swiss Alps as a child. She originally wrote in German, and her works were translated into English in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She died in Zurich in 1901, at the age of 74.‍Jeanne Willis is an author of fiction and poetry for children and young adults. She wrote her first book when she was five, and was first published at age 21. Since then, she has written over 300 books, several of which have won awards.
