Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll, who was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, was an English writer, known for his use of riddles and wordplay and often considered to be the originator of modern children’s fiction.Born in Cheshire in 1832, Carroll spent most of his life in Oxford, where he lectured in Mathematics at Christ Church College. He developed a close friendship with Henry Liddell, Dean of the college, and his family, and it is often suggested that Henry’s daughter Alice was the model for Carroll’s heroine. In 1862, while on a boating trip with the Liddell children, Carroll first created the outline of the story that would become Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The manuscript was published in 1865, to immediate commercial success. Carroll went on to publish a sequel to Alice’s Adventures, along with a nonsense poem entitled The Hunting of the Snark, and a tale of fairy siblings Sylvie and Bruno.Carroll was also a talented photographer, taking portraits of many high profile individuals including Alfred Tennyson, and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Despite his growing fame, he continued to teach at Christ Church College, and remained resident there until his death in 1898.Carroll’s most famous work Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is available for purchase as a physical audiobook from the Voxblock website.

Voxblock has been such an amazing gift for my niece, and I love the fact it’s a never ending gift idea being able to get her new stories for her library. She really enjoys spending time listening to books and is happy to replay stories. She’s even got the animals (dog and cat) chilled out listening with her.
