About The Worst Witch series
Jill Murphy wrote and illustrated The Worst Witch in 1974. Mildred Hubble is a pupil at Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches, where her spells go wrong, her broomstick crashes, and her tabby kitten cannot keep its balance on a broom.
With her best friend Maud by her side, sharp-eyed Miss Hardbroom watching and spiteful Ethel Hallow ready to make trouble, Mildred somehow manages to save the day, usually by accident.
