Astrid Lindgren was a Swedish children’s author. Much-loved in her home country and throughout the world, no other Swedish author has been translated into as many languages.The creator of Pippi Longstocking, one of the most famous characters in children’s fiction, Lindgren worked as a journalist and secretary before finding success as a writer. She campaigned throughout her life for the rights of children, and for equality, ecology, and animal welfare, and was a committed humanist.She died in Stockholm in 2002, at the age of 94.
